The dot SE country-code top-level extension was started in 1986 and assigned to Sweden. During the first years after its establishment, the registration procedure was really restrictive, so a very low number of domain names were secured. Persons were allowed to book no more than one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was required, i.e. merely Swedish persons, business entities and organizations could obtain a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened a lot and, accordingly, the number of .SE domains has been growing each year.
