Any time you add a domain as hosted in some account, you typically set a pair of Name Servers to direct it to that specific service provider. On their end, three records are set up automatically the moment the Internet domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The former is a numeric address, or IP address, which “tells” the domain name where its site is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they reveal the server that handles the emails for that specific domain. The site and the email hosting are often considered to be one thing, while they are in reality two different services. Having independent records for them will enable you to have them with different companies if you'd like. For example, some new company could have superb uptime for your website, but you may not want to switch your e-mails from your current host and by employing an A record to point the Internet domain to the former and MX records to have the emails with the second, you could get the best of both companies. These records are checked whenever you want to open a website or send an email - either way, the company whose name servers are used for the domain address is going to be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you've set records different from their own, the right web/mail server will then be contacted and you are going to see the needed site or your e-mail is going to be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Hosting

If you have a hosting account from our company and you want to move either your site or your emails to another service provider, it will take you literally just two mouse clicks to do so. Our Hepsia CP comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you are going to be able to see and edit the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you decide to use a different email provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the default 2, it will not take more than a couple of clicks either to add them. You may also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the higher the priority a given MX record is going to have. The propagation of any record that you change or set up will not take more than several hours and if required, you'll also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which reveals how long a record will stay active after it is changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Accessing and editing the A or MX records for any of your domain names or subdomains is extremely easy if you get a semi-dedicated server plan from us. The accounts are handled by using our in-house built Hepsia CP, which features a section devoted to the DNS records of your domains. The latter is going to be listed alphabetically and you may click on any of them to see both the A and the MX records. Changing any record will be as easy as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even if you have never dealt with such matters before, you simply won't encounter any problems if you choose to switch your site or e-mails to a different service provider while keeping the second service with our company. When required, you can also create additional MX records and set a certain priority based on the instructions of the new provider.
